A river somewhere along the road on the way to Gorakhpur.

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in India on Tuesday, 1st-November-2016. Faizabad to Gorakhpur. 87 miles. I thought the old stomach was okay first thing this morning, but it wasn’t! But at least the Imodium is working, and I’m able to continue. It just gets a bit boring drinking water and eating biscuits all day!

One thing I forgot to mention yesterday is that I passed the 1,000-mile mark. It seems to have taken forever, but then I suppose I was recuperating in my nursing home in Dhule for 10 days!

On the old health front, apart from having the shits, I now seem to have developed a spot on my bum! (will the ailments ever end?) So tonight, I went in search of some sanitary towels for extra cushioning! The bloke in the shop where I went to buy them gave me a really strange look and as much as I tried to explain the reason why I wanted them I think I just made things worse! In the end, I just shut up and paid for them!

Travelsonabike2 India Monday 31st-October-2016

Looking out over the fields.

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in India on Monday, 31st-October-2016. Lucknow to Faizabad. 79 miles. Well, they certainly know how to party here. The fireworks went on all night! I think the last ones I heard were at about 2 am. Even when I got up this morning, I could still hear the odd firework being let off somewhere! And they’re still letting them off here in Faizabad tonight. It’s getting a bit boring now!

Fast ride today without a stop. Well, not stopping properly, as in getting off the bike and sitting down somewhere. I couldn’t see the point. I wasn’t going to take a chance on eating something just in case, as my stomach still didn’t feel good!

Early Finish?

As a consequence of not stopping, I arrived in Faizabad pretty early and immediately set about finding a hotel. The first one I found was all closed up. Perhaps they were having a refit. And went off in search of another one. Just around the corner, I found two more hotels, but they were also closed! I started to wonder whether this was some sort of tourist town and it was now out of season. Everywhere had closed!

I carried on looking and found more hotels, but they were also closed. I went up to one of them and got talking to the manager. He told me it was a public holiday, so all the staff were off! I asked if there were any hotels around that would be open, and he said no! After doing my, I’ve travelled a long way and really wanted to stay in this town routine he eventually said that I could stop. But it would be room only and no services, that was fine by me that’s all I wanted anyway!

Travelsonabike2 India Sunday 30th-October-2016

Happy Diwali signs in Lucknow.

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in India on Sunday, 30th-October-2016. In Lucknow. I decided to stay put in the end today. As I said yesterday, I wanted to upload some videos onto the website.

All of the annoying videos that I’ve taken so far on this trip can be viewed in the link below if you are really that bored!

Staying put was definitely the right choice on a different front as I developed a bad stomach mid-morning, and without going into any detail, I’m so glad that I wasn’t cycling and the toilet was close by!

It’s Always The Same

Every time I develop an upset stomach which is very rare, it’s always when I stay in a poshish hotel! All the time I stay in lower stared establishments, I seem to be fine!

I eat salads which they say you shouldn’t. I clean my teeth with tap water. Again they say that’s something that you shouldn’t do. And I eat at street stalls where the plates and forks are rinsed with water that water probably isn’t the cleanest! But all this, I believe, helps build up the immune system!

The bigger posher hotels sort of try and do the food hygiene thing but get it wrong hence an upset stomach! I only ventured out late afternoon, and that wasn’t too far. I watched the fireworks from the hotel roof in the evening. All those sudden bangs could have ended in tears! Hopefully, I’ll be okay tomorrow!
