Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is bicycle touring England on Wednesday, 17th-January-2024. Salisbury to Bognor Regis. 76 miles. That’s more like it. I’m pretty impressed with today’s mileage. And glad that I can still do it.
I think maybe over the past couple of days because I’ve not had to do many miles, I’ve not bothered going for it. And perhaps that’s why I’ve been struggling. I also didn’t have to worry about setting up camp today. I’m in a lovely heated house tonight.
I’ve also worked out, possibly why the past couple of days have been so long. With little mileage cycled. I keep arguing with my phone. Because a lot of the routes I’ve been cycling are familiar to me. When I knew a hill was coming up, I’d try and go a different way. And of course, being as it’s so cold, I have to stop, take my gloves off and tell my phone I’m going somewhere else.
I’ll be at home for at least the next couple of days. But I might venture off again somewhere after that. Although somebody yesterday told me that it’s turning milder and rain is on its way. Hopefully not; we’ll have to wait and see. Judging by how much water I’ve seen in the fields over the past few days. Rain is the last thing we need. And, of course, I don’t want it for cycling, being the fair-weather cyclist that I am.
