Bike-Ride to Australia Wednesday 11th-April-2012 Crystal Brook to Burra. 59 miles. Hard ride again today. I wish that headwind would go! It’s also been pretty chilly. I even had to put my fleece on. I don’t have to head south for much longer, and I’ll be at my furthest point south. Things might start to warm up again after that.
The scenery has changed quite a bit now. It’s rolling hills, with wheat fields, not that there’s any wheat there now it’s all been harvested. I think they’re waiting to burn the fields when the ban on fires runs out on the fifteenth of April.
I’ve seen loads of sheep and cattle in the fields that had the wheat in. I’m not sure what they eat as it’s only the stubble left in the fields! All the sheep and cattle seem to be very nervous. They’re off across the field as soon as I get anywhere near. All I see is a cloud of dust disappearing into the distance. I think it’s my helmet that scares them!!
I’ve seen a few kangaroos today, which has been pretty cool. What has also been pretty cool is, having a phone signal! That’s two days on the trot now!
Tonight’s campsite was full. A coach load of children were due in tonight. Who were all staying in individual tents! They didn’t need to tell me twice, sixty children all camping, no thanks. I’m off. I’m now slumming it in some motel.
Hopefully, I’ll be in Chat magazine on or around the tenth of May.
