Bike-Ride to Australia Thursday 9th-February-2012 Changlun to Butterworth. 86 miles. The sun seems to be getting hotter by the day. It’s so intense! And I really dropped a bollock today. By running out of water! And there was nowhere around to get any! But luckily, being the old boy scout that I am and remembering their motto “be prepared!” I was!
I was carrying a bottle of beer in my front pannier! And it tasted divine. It was also pretty cool. Needless to say, as soon as I came across a shop I filled my water bottles, and replaced my bottle of beer! “Be prepared!”
The most annoying thing I’ve found out about this country so far is the blooming traffic lights! They seem to be everywhere. And you can guarantee that they’ll turn red just as I approach them! I then have to sit there and bake in the sun, usually without any shade. The Malay people seem friendly enough. They all shout hello when I ride past. Well, I think that’s what they’re saying!? And English appears to be widely spoken.
Everything is going well apart from my phone! I’m having a nightmare trying to connect to the various networks! And that’s despite talking to Vodaphone before leaving home, who assured me everything would be okay. I emailed them two weeks ago and got an automated reply saying somebody would get back to me within 48hrs! Rant over! I’ve still not heard anything!
