Sunday 12th July YouTube video. Another video using Garry’s Flickr photos.

It was April 2011, and Garry was busy planning his ride to Australia, which he was due to embark on in October. While planning and trying to sort things out. Garry suddenly realised that despite having cycled 15,000 miles, he’d never actually taken his bike on an aeroplane!

Knowing that his trip would involve a couple of flights, he thought it might be a good idea to take his bike on a plane and try it out first! Wondering where to go, Garry decided to stay in Europe. He could also use the trip to fill in a gap around the coast of Europe, which he hadn’t cycled yet. The stretch of coast between Malaga and Monaco.

The ride to Monaco wasn’t anything special, cycling through some of Spain’s busiest tourist areas! But still enjoyable. After reaching Monaco, Garry turned back on himself and headed home through France. Taking the “Route Napoleon”, and weren’t there some hills on that route!

Man bike

Sunday, 5th-July-2020 and another YouTube/Flickr video!

Garry and Katrin had been in England, playing the tourist for a few days. After they’d finished their ride of the Loire Valley. But now they were going to head to Katrin’s home in Switzerland.

After catching the early ferry from Portsmouth, they arrived in Le Havre. And as with most of Garry’s tours, there was no planned route. They would make it up as they went along! The only end game was to reach Katrin’s home in Sarnen, at some point!

It took Katrin and Garry two weeks to cycle the 800 miles to Sarnen. A very leisurely ride, playing the tourist as they went along. On route, they visited many of France’s most beautiful cities, spending their afternoons and evenings exploring the streets and sights.

Once in Switzerland, instead of cycling straight to Sarnen, they went on a detour to Zurich. Over the past couple of years, Garry had met several travellers, who had all said they were heading to Zurich! Garry wanted to see what the attraction was! And despite Katrin saying it wasn’t worth bothering with, they still went! She was right, there wasn’t a lot there! But the ride there was worth it!

After arriving in Sarnen, Garry and Katrin ended their cycle tour. Although they didn’t stop touring! They spent another week touring Switzerland by car, with Katrin as Garry’s tour guide. Before Garry flew home to England.

Sunday 28th-June-2020 and another YouTube/Flickr video!

France 2010, Garry was heading back to France, to meet up with Katrin. The Swiss cyclist he had met on the way home from his tour of Italy. Garry had met Katrin when she was cycling Eurovelo Route 6 and had decided to join her. Unfortunately, after four days, Katrin ran out of time and had to return to Switzerland.

So Katrin could get home as quickly as possible they ended their tour in Orleans and caught the train to Paris, where they parted company. But before parting, they agreed to finish cycling Eurovelo 6 to Nantes together.

To meet back up, Garry caught the Eurostar from London to Paris, while Katrin caught the TGV from Switzerland. Once in Paris, they jumped on the train back to Orleans. From there, they continued their ride, towards the Atlantic Ocean.

After reaching the Atlantic and finishing Eurovelo Route 6, they decided to carry on cycling! And rode to Garry’s home in England. On route, they would stop in some of Brittany, and Normandy’s best cities.

This video shows some of the photo’s Garry took, while on their tour.

Bridge over water

Garry McGivern’s Youtube video on Sunday 21st-june-202. Another YouTube/Flickr video.

It’s early July 2010, and Garry has been staying with some friends in Samoens, France, after finishing his tour of Italy three weeks ago. But he’s now back on the road and heading home.

On the ride home, he passed briefly through Switzerland! And by coincidence, meet up with a Swiss cyclist, Katrin, a bit further up the road! After chatting and cycling with Katrin for a short while, they decided to team up and cycle together, with Garry joining Katrin on her Eurovelo 6 tour.

Unfortunately, after four days, Katrin ran out of time and had to return home to Switzerland. (Well, that’s what she told Garry!) So they ended their tour in Orleans and jumped on a train to Paris. There, they parted company, with Katrin Catching the TGV to Switzerland. While Garry continued to cycle back to England. But before parting, they agreed to finish cycling Eurovelo Route 6 together.
