Garry McGivern’s cycling around the world, Friday, 21st-September-2012, Zhosaly to Shaghan. 69 miles. I was still feeling rough this morning and running a bit of a temperature, and I debated whether to stay for another night. But in the end, I decided to take a couple of paracetamols and keep moving.
I would have probably felt worse if I’d have stayed put for the day anyway. I would have only spent all day thinking how bad I feel and making things ten times worse than they are. I always find it best to keep busy and take my mind off it. And I certainly had something to keep my mind off feeling rough. A strong headwind and awful roads that I had to concentrate on all the time! By the end of the day, I was feeling much better.
After setting up camp and unloading my bike tonight, I discovered I’d lost a bolt holding my rear rack. Not a problem; I always carry a few spare bolts ever since I had one snap in Ireland a few years ago. And it probably did me a favour because it made me check all the other bolts, and quite a few were loose. These bumpy roads are certainly taking their toll.
I’m surrounded by cows and horses tonight. There was loads of mooing and neighing when I pitched my tent. But they’ve calmed down now. I just hope one doesn’t try to join me in my tent tonight!

Don’t forget the main reason behind my ride. I want to raise as much money for cancer research charities as possible. After my wife, Josie, died of breast cancer in 2007, aged only 42. Even the smallest donation helps. You can donate to Cancer Research UK or the Australian National Breast Cancer Foundation. Click on either one to donate. Every little bit helps to rid the world of this cruel disease.
