Garry McGivern’s European bike ride, Thursday, 1st-September-2022, Nogent-sur-Seine to Le Lac d’Orient. 52 miles. What a struggle it’s been today, but still very enjoyable.
It’s been a day of two halves. The first half of the day this morning, I spent on quiet country roads in the middle of nowhere until I reached Troyes. I was going to look around, but from what I saw, there wasn’t much to see, so I cycled straight through.
After Troyes, I found myself on a Greenway next to a canal, so I followed it, not knowing if it was going in the right direction. I’d had enough of hills today and just wanted an easy ride wherever it was going! I thought it must be going roughly in my direction as the sun was to my right and slightly behind me.
After saying yesterday, or maybe it was the day before, that my new saddle was okay, I’ve changed my mind. It hurts and hasn’t been very comfortable at all.
I’m staying at a large campsite tonight. It’s got everything a bar, a restaurant, a swimming pool and an entertainment team. I don’t think we’ll bother too much with the entertainment, although the bar’s quite good!
