Garry McGivern’s European bike ride, Saturday, 27th-August-2022. Mortain-Brocage to Sees. 63 miles. Another great day, despite getting annoyed with the cycle routes!
I left the campsite nice and early, and after cycling on the roads for a few miles, I was back on the Greenway. All was going well until I reached Domfront, which incidentally was where I was hoping to get yesterday. Anyway, after reaching Domfront, I was meant to leave the Greenway and pick up a different cycle path. And that’s where it all went wrong.
The new route I was meant to take wasn’t a route for bikes. It was more of a hiking trail. Firstly it went over a small bridge that had steps. Then it went up a ridiculously steep hill, which I had no chance of getting up. So I had to continue on the Greenway, going in the wrong direction for a few miles before I could get off. It was after that that I went back to my kind of cycling, straight down the main road, the most direct route.
The rest of the day was spent going up and down long hills, which for me is much better than the short sharp hills you get on cycle routes.
