Bike-Ride to Australia 27th-April-2012

Garry McGivern’s bike-ride to Australia Friday 27th-April-2012 Sydney to Gosford. 48 miles. I’ve left Sydney and am back on the road. Although I didn’t leave until after lunch. I needed to go back into the city to pick up some bits I couldn’t get yesterday. A huge thanks to Jenny and Noel for putting me up, and thanks to Jenny for being my tour guide.

Once I’d managed to get out of the city, I found myself on the old Pacific Highway, which twisted and turned its way through the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. It was an enjoyable ride, although I couldn’t appreciate it too much towards the end, as it got dark. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been indoors and not on the road for the past few days. But it seemed to get dark every so early tonight. Maybe it’s a sign that the Australian winter is on its way! Best leave soon then!

I had a bit of trouble finding somewhere to stop tonight. You’d think it would be easier. After all, it’s not as if hotels/motels don’t have illuminated signs! Despite the street lights, it always surprises me how much harder it is to find somewhere in the dark. Not a huge amount of miles covered today, but then that was down to my late start. But after a few days off, it’s good to break yourself in gently!

Don’t forget the main reason behind my ride, which is to raise as much money for cancer research charities as possible. Even the smallest donation helps. You can donate to Cancer Research UK or the Australian National Breast Cancer Foundation. Click on either one to donate.
