August-2024 Garry McGivern’s regular monthly update. Apologies for not doing an update last month (July). But to be honest, there wasn’t a lot to report, not on the cycling front anyway. I wasn’t able to get out on it. I had a reoccurrence of blisters. But this time, they were on my left foot, and I couldn’t wear any shoes, sandals or even flip-flops. And to top it all, I had cellulitis in the other leg. Although I’m awaiting the results of a couple of biopsies, which came as a bit of a shock. I thought it was just a normal appointment at dermatology. Haha, and after talking for a while before he took the biopsies, he said, “You are rather complicated.”
Thankfully, by the end of July, everything had cleared up. And I was able to get back out on my bike. Unfortunately, by then, the schools had broken up for the summer holidays, and there was no way I was going to go near any campsites. They would have all been too busy for my liking. So, instead of going away, I’ve been working! But at least August is over now and the kids go back to school in a couple of days. So I might try to get away in the next few days.
I’m Not A Couch Potato
Haha, because my back and neck are so complex, the hospital is now using my scans and X-rays to test new recruits and see what diagnosis they come up with. Because according to my scans, I should be in a lot of pain and not able to cycle the distances I do. Quote from Mike, my physiotherapist: “If you were a couch potato, you would be easy to sort out. But because you’re fit and active and have good thigh muscles, it masks a lot, and you’re difficult to diagnose.”
Day Trip
Julie and I had a trip to London, the first time we’d been there for a year or two, which was good. Once we got there! The trains were a nightmare, and what is usually a two-journey turned into three hours. But it didn’t dampen the day. And we found a new restaurant in Covent Garden. It’s on the roof of the Opera House and overlooks Covent Garden. Apart from visiting a couple of restaurants, we didn’t do much else. We, or rather Julie, visited a couple of shops and we had a wander along the Southbank.
