Garry McGivern’s November-2023 Update

November-2023 Update Garry McGivern’s regular monthly update. There’s really not much to say about November, apart from my health issues. The weather’s been pretty awful, and I’ve not been feeling too good for much of the month. I had some blood tests, but nothing was obvious. And I’m feeling better now. I’m an enigma!

I had an MRI scan on my lower back at the beginning of the month; my left leg keeps giving way and seems to be getting worse. So they’re investigating that now. I don’t have the results yet. (No news is good news). However, after the scan, the radiologist asked if they had scanned my back after I’d had a slipped disc removed in 2015, which didn’t work. I hadn’t. At the time, I was told there was too much scarring for them to be able to see anything. On discharge from the hospital, I slipped the disk again. I’d already had it operated on and had an injection the previous year. It made me wonder if the radiologist could see something but couldn’t comment. But as I said earlier. No news is good news.

An Early Start

I was up bright and early one Saturday morning and decided to go out for a ride. When I say early, I mean I was on the road at 4 am. But unfortunately, it didn’t take long before I started feeling rough. I never even made it out of Bognor! So, I had a little bimble around Bognor, which turned out to be highly amusing. I spotted youngsters heading home, looking somewhat worse for wear after a night of drinking. I remember those days.

Further on, I bumped into a young lad (Reece) who was lost after his phone had died. He was also a little drunk and was looking for his girlfriend’s flat. He knew it was near a bridge and asked me for directions. Unfortunately, where he was, there were three bridges close by and a fourth not so far away. I pointed the direction of each one to him, leaving him to choose which one to aim for.

As I left, he asked if I saw a girl could I tell her where he was. I asked him his name just in case I did meet some random girl wandering the streets. Haha, 200 yards down the road, there was a girl in a dressing gown and slippers. “Are you looking for Reece?” I asked. “Yes,” she said. “He’s back down the road looking for you,” I said. “Thank you,” she said as she headed down the road, calling out the lad’s name. That tickled me, and so glad I could have been of service.

December Looks Better

At least the wet weather that we had last month and for much of this month that caused so much flooding seems to have abated. (There’s a gallery of photos from the floods on my Flickr page.) Hopefully, I’ll be able to get out on the bike a little more in December. I’ll take this bright, cold weather over wet and windy weather any day.

  1. Hello Garry, I ‘ve been wondering how you’ re getting. I ‘ve been missing your videos, which maybe tells you what an exciting life I lead!
Sorry to hear about your ongoing health issues, hope you get some good news soon.
December looks to be off to cold start, chance of snow, maybe. We’ ll see.
Anyway, best wishes, hope you’re able to get out on your bike again soon.
    Mike.

    1. Hi Mike, thanks for the kind words. I hope you’re well.
It’s very cold at the moment. But I’d take that over wind and rain any day. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s going to last; rain is forecast for tomorrow. Or maybe it’ll fall as snow.
Unfortunately, looking at the month ahead, it’s highly unlikely that I’ll be going anywhere on my bike this side of Christmas. But you never know. I am partial to just taking off at a whim!
