Cycling The World Kazakhstan 27th-August-2012

Garry McGivern’s cycling around the world, Monday, 27th-August-2012 Qulsary to Eskene. 104 miles. After my night of luxury in a hotel, I’m back to camping wild tonight. Apart from hotels being few and far between, they’re really not that good, ignoring last night’s one. That was okay, although they didn’t have any internet, and of course, they kept me in my room! I think I’ll be camping quite a lot here in Kazakhstan.

At least when I’m in my tent, it’s relatively clean, and any dirt is my own. Not from some big fat hairy sales rep or trucker. The toilets are also a lot closer. I don’t have to walk a mile just to go for a crap, and besides, I’m always comfortable camping, and I can stop whenever I want to. Although after saying that, I had trouble finding a spot to pitch my tent tonight.

The countryside is so flat and baron here you can see for miles, and as I said, I don’t mind camping, but it’s always best to camp out of sight. The only sort of cover I could find tonight was an electricity pylon, so at least I had something to lock my bike to. Maybe I could tap into the pylon and get some electricity!?

Also, is there something I should know about? There have been loads of Russian military vehicles on the road today.

Don’t forget the main reason behind my ride. I want to raise as much money for cancer research charities as possible. After my wife, Josie, died of breast cancer in 2007, aged only 42. Even the smallest donation helps. You can donate to Cancer Research UK or the Australian National Breast Cancer Foundation. Click on either one to donate. Every little bit helps to rid the world of this cruel disease.
