Garry McGivern’s bike-ride to Australia-and-beyond Monday, 28th-May-2012 Delta to Provo. 95 miles. There’s been loads of traffic today, particularly caravans and camper vans, or rather RV’s, as they call them here. Somebody told me tonight that it was a public holiday today, which would explain the traffic.
The size of some of the RVs is ridiculous. They’re more like coaches, and then they tow a car behind that. And not a small car, it’s usually a big four by four! And as for the caravans, they were at least thirty feet long. They also towed another trailer, with either a quad bike or boat on. And in one case, both!
At one point today, the road was covered in giant grasshoppers. I had a bit of a job avoiding them, and they made a loud crunch when I didn’t. My tyres tonight are full of dead grasshoppers!
It’s a lot warmer now that I’ve dropped out of the mountains. It’s surprising how much warmer it is! I think I’m down to about 2000 feet now. It was a long day, with plenty of hills, and I didn’t finish until after six o’clock. Supper tonight was in a fifties-style diner.
