November 2014 – Update

Well the beginning of the month didn’t get off to the best of starts! The first day of the month which was a Saturday I decided to go away camping, so I packed the bike up and was already to go, I just needed to update my website first, think I should have left it alone seeing as I managed to crash it! After an hour or so I managed to get it going again and once again I went to leave, just before leaving I thought I’d alter the time on my cycle computer the one that tells me how far I’ve been, that also decided that it would crash, My immediate  thought was that the battery that had gone as it’s been on the bike since I brought it back in 2008 and it’s covered over 42,000 miles, don’t know what that equates to in hours running but whatever it is it must be a lot!

As I always like to know how many miles I’ve covered in a day, I decided to jump on my pub bike and go and get a new battery, once I’d got the new battery I put it into the computer but it still wouldn’t work, so back I went to the shop where I’d brought the battery just to make sure it wasn’t a duff one, which it wasn’t, the man in the shop also had a go at getting the computer going but he failed also! Not wanting to go away without a cycle computer, I went off in search of a new one, after visiting several cycle shops none of which had one suitable I gave up and thought I’d have to find one online, by now I’d also given up on going away as it was early afternoon, so I just went to the pub instead!

I did however manage to get the computer going the following day after giving it thorough beating!

It was Remembrance Day in the UK this month, held on the 11 November which is also known as Armistice Day. It marks the day World War One ended, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, back in 1918. A two minute silence is held every year at the same time to remember and honour all soldiers who have died in all wars since. This year to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the first world war, the Tower of London in London had an art display called “Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red” a display of 888,246 ceramic poppies one for every British soldier that lost their life in the first world war.Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red After seeing images of it on the TV we decided to go up and have a look at it for ourselves. We went up on a Monday with the intention of missing most of the crowds, how wrong were we, I think several thousand other people had the same idea! After we eventually arrived at the Tower, the nearest tube station was closed due to so many people wanting to see the display so we had a bit of a trek from the next station on, once we’d fought our way through the crowds at the Tower we managed to get a good look at all the poppies, the castle was surrounded on all sides with the bright red poppies laid out in the moat of the castle and some were cascading down the castle walls into the moat. A very suitable tribute to the thousands that lost their lives; it was all rather moving and very poignant! Despite it being very busy it was well worth the trip, the rest of the day we spent walking around London looking at the other memorials including the Cenotaph to look at the wreaths of poppies laid there.Every man Remembered We finished the day off by going to China town for supper before getting the train back home. The following day I was expecting to be in a lot of pain after all the walking I did in London, but surprisingly I felt pretty good! That’s one of the annoying thing about my back/leg you never seem to know what’s good or bad for it! I also managed to give myself food poisoning, not too badly but enough to not want to venture out from the house! Totally my own fault I’d cooked a curry and had forgotten it was in the fridge so when I came across it the following week I decided to have it for my lunch, it tasted fine to me but then I suppose the cream and the chicken that were in it probably were turning a bit after a week!

Finished the end of the month off with a trip to Morocco.
