On This Day 21st-July-2019

This week’s on this day post comes from the 21st-July-2019, and I’m still in Ireland, in a reflective mood.

Sunday 21st July. Ballina to Sligo. 38 Miles.

Not wanting to dwell on the past. But it was one year ago to the day that I was admitted to the hospital in excruciating pain and the start of my battle with sepsis! But now, one year on, I’m back out and about on my bike. Although, I’m not completely convinced I’m over it all, as I do struggle a lot more than I ever used to. Or maybe it’s just because I’m getting old!

Despite being a pretty crap day weather-wise, I’m just so grateful to be here still and able to tour on my bike. I am one lucky guy! And I certainly wouldn’t have been here without all the great doctors and nurses at St Richard’s Hospital Chichester. Or without the support I received from my family and friends. I think it was probably worse for you. I was fine; I was away with the fairies on a ferry to Morocco!

A pint to celebrate

I stopped early today and found a hotel; cycling in the wind and rain is no fun! Tomorrow looks a bit dodgy on the weather front, but it’s supposedly good after that!
