Italy Bicycle Tour

May/June 2010

Garry started his tour of Italy by cycling along the south coast of England to Dover where he caught a ferry to Calais. He then cycled up along the north coast of France passing through Belgium and into Holland. Finishing up in Amsterdam. In Amsterdam, he caught a train to Munich Germany. Then from Munich another train to Venice, where his tour of Italy would start.

In Venice Garry’s first problem was to get out of the place! Venice was probably not the best of places to start a cycle tour!

Once out of Venice Garry cycled down the Adriatic coast. Around the bottom of the country then up along the Mediterranean coast and into France.

In France Garry then cycled as far as Monaco before turning inland passing through the Mont Blanc tunnel.

He then stopped in the French Alps for a few weeks before continuing his journey home. Passing very briefly through Switzerland then back into France.

Back in France, he met Katrin, a Swiss cyclist who was cycling the Loire valley.

Not really having any plans or time scale Garry decided to join her!

They got as far as Orleans before Katrin ran out of time and had to return to Switzerland.

Not wanting to continue on his own Garry joined Katrin in catching the train to Paris where she would catch another train back to Switzerland. Before they parted, they decided that they would finish off cycling the Loire valley together some day.

Katrin then caught her TGV train back to Switzerland while Garry cycled to Le Havre and caught a ferry back to England.

Total miles cycled 3095.
