Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in England on Saturday, 14th-September-2013. Neufchatel-en-Bray, France to Bognor Regis England! 58 miles. After my efforts to sort the tent out yesterday, I seem to have made it worse!
The weather forecast for the night was rain and it certainly did! It was raining for most of the night! As I was lying in my sleeping bag, I thought I could hear the rain dripping onto the ground sheet. But was hoping that the bigger drops of rain I could hear were falling from a nearby tree and falling on the outside of the tent. Unfortunately, my worst fears were realised when I eventually decided to look out from my inner tent.
Yesterday Was A Waste Of Time
It was as wet inside as out, even more so, in fact, as the groundsheet was stopping the water from draining away. It was just ponding. There were puddles everywhere! Luckily I’d packed all my stuff away in my waterproof bags, so that was all dry. Something I’ve done each night ever since I had to pack up rather quickly early one morning in Spain when I got blown away in a tornado! The inner tent also seemed to save me and my sleeping bag from getting wet. There was some water in there, and my sleeping bag and clothes were a bit wet but not drenched.
I decided that the best thing to do is go home and sort the tent out, whether that’s trying to waterproof it again or maybe buying a new one, after all it is nearly ten years old and travelled over 30,000 miles on the back of my bike!
