Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in France on Saturday, 21st-September-2013.Neufchateau to Gerardmer. 75 miles. Nobody at the campsite to pay last night and also nobody this morning. I like free camping especially when there’s a nice hot shower!
A very misty start to the day but once it cleared it was a lovely sunny day the first I’ve had on this trip and hopefully not the last! It’s got a lot more hilly now. I had two big Cols to go up. The first at 433 metres and the second at 677 metres! I’ve got at least one tomorrow that I know of. The Col de la Schlucht at 1135 metres. That’s something nice to look forward to tomorrow!
I was hoping to camp tonight. I’d already had it in my head what I was going to have for dinner, beef (Out of a tin, unfortunately, but still quite nice) with potatoes and a bottle of red wine. I can get a good bottle of Merlot (not that I know what’s good or not, I just know what I like!) for less than €2. Instead, I’ve had to have some pastry with meat in for a starter. Pasta as the main course, cheese and bread and then a tart to finish with, all washed down with a bottle of house red!
