Garry McGivern’s cycling around the world, Saturday, 22nd-September-2012, Shaghan to Sulutobe. 90 miles. I struggled to get up this morning. The mornings are getting darker, and the temperature is dropping. But things soon warmed up once I was up and on the road. And this afternoon, I was cycling on a lovely smooth new stretch of road.
The many road workers building the new roads are a friendly bunch. They’re always waving and smiling as I pass. And I quite often stop and ask them what the road conditions are like ahead. Most of the time, they haven’t got a clue what I’m going on about. But in the same breath, it’s quite surprising how many of them do speak some English.
When I stopped to ask about the road conditions today, I drew the usual five or six workers (I think that might be the size of the gangs, as it seems to be the same every time I stop). Today, however, as I was talking to them, a minibus pulled up and out jumped about ten other road workers, all wanting to have their photo taken with me. It took me a pretty long time to get away from them.
It’s a bleak Saturday night this week with no company. I couldn’t find any of Stella’s local friends!
