Garry McGivern’s cycling around the world, Saturday, 25th-August-2012 Reyneu to Opornyy. 73 miles. Another hard ride today. There’s been a strong headwind. But I’ve had my first full day of cycling on asphalt! Hopefully, it won’t be my last.
I’m really not doing too well on the accommodation front here in Kazakhstan. It was fine in Aktau. There I was staying in a lovely western-style hotel, but it’s definitely gone downhill since! The first night I had a room with no electricity and a shared bathroom but no toilet. That was a hole in the ground outside, which is fine.
The next night I had a room with electricity but no bathroom. There wasn’t even a shared bathroom. And again, the toilet was a hole in the ground outside! Last night’s room was my best so far. I had electricity, a shared bathroom and an inside toilet! But I had to share the room with the manager! Poor him!
And tonight, nothing. I’ve had to pitch camp in the most sheltered, out of the wind and out of sight place I could find. Under the road in a storm pipe, which will be fine as long as it doesn’t rain!
