Ely to Nevada/Utah border. 63 miles
Looked out my motel window first thing and it was as black as anything towards the east and it was blowing a gale still, so I debated whether to stay or not. After having a cup of coffee and noodles for breakfast I looked out again and it was a clear blue sky, still very windy but then I only had 60 or so miles today today so I decided to go for it.
After leaving my motel room and going round the other side of the building I saw that the black clouds were over to the west, I couldn’t go back to my room as I’d left the key in the room and the door locked behind me!
As I headed up the hill it got really black and cold, in the distance I could see another cyclist standing by the side of the road, as I pulled up we introduced ourselves, his name was Jan and he was from Belgium, he was also debating as to whether to continue as it really was very bleak up ahead! After talking we both decided to go for it. It started to get really cold I only had my shorts, sandals and fleece on, first stop I put my waterproof jacket and gloves on to try and keep out the icy wind and snow! But after going down a rather long hill I had to stop and put trainers, socks and trousers on, I was fine after that.
It was nice to be riding along with somebody else especially on such an awful day, it helped both of us to keep going. Parted company with only 6 miles to go for both of us as Jan was heading in a different direction to me.
