Cycling The World 28th-July-2012

Garry McGivern’scycling around the world, Saturday, 28th-July-2012. In Istanbul. Well, the keen-eyed amongst you may have noticed that I haven’t left Istanbul! I didn’t need too much persuasion to stay. I ended up staying up last night watching the opening ceremony of the London Olympics, which didn’t finish until gone two o’clock. So I was a little tired this morning, and to be honest, I’m still not feeling 100%. There were also a couple of bits that I wanted to sort out before leaving Istanbul that I hadn’t got done yesterday.

One good thing about not moving on today was that I got to go out for a ride with Yohan. We didn’t go too far, but it was still good. Although I must admit that I was a little nervous and didn’t feel too safe on the roads. I learned from Yohan that during Ramadan, he’s not even allowed to drink water between sunrise and sunset. He’s only allowed to swill the water around his mouth and then spit it out! Now that’s very hard, particularly in this heat!

Don’t forget the main reason behind my ride. I want to raise as much money for cancer research charities as possible. After my wife, Josie, died of breast cancer in 2007, aged only 42. Even the smallest donation helps. You can donate to Cancer Research UK or the Australian National Breast Cancer Foundation. Click on either one to donate. Every little bit helps to rid the world of this cruel disease.
