Kazakhstan, Cycling The World 8th-September-2012

Garry McGivern’s cycling around the world, Saturday, 8th-September-2012, Saghyz to Bayghanin. 83 miles. When I look back at my time in Australia, particularly when I cycled across the Nullabor Plain, that seems like a walk in the park compared with what I’m facing now. At least in Australia, I had good roads to cycle on, and I knew how far it was between roadhouses. Here the roads are nonexistent, and I haven’t got a clue as to how far it is between stops! But I’m having fun, really, although it is a bit of a pain in the bum, quite literally!

Tent bike train
Need a hand?

I think I may have chosen the wrong place to camp tonight. I’m next to a railway line, and the trains seem to come through every thirty minutes or so. Haha! And now a train has broken down next to me, blocking the level crossing. Forcing some cars to come past my tent, trying to find a way through. Luckily I’m behind an electricity pylon, and it’s a dead end just ahead of me.

Thankfully they soon fixed the train, and the track was clear. But now it’s back to a train coming through every thirty minutes again! Hang on, that’s the 9.15 just gone past! Maybe it would have been better had they not fixed the train. I don’t think I’ll be getting much sleep tonight.

Please Donate

Don’t forget the main reason behind my ride. I want to raise as much money for cancer research charities as possible. After my wife, Josie, died of breast cancer in 2007, aged only 42. Even the smallest donation helps. You can donate to Cancer Research UK or the Australian National Breast Cancer Foundation. Click on either one to donate. Every little bit helps to rid the world of this cruel disease.
