Bike-Ride to Australia-and-Beyond 9th-June-2012

Garry McGivern’s bike-ride to Australia-and-beyond Saturday, 9th-June-2012 Imperial to McCook. 63 miles. Another windy day. I might have to battle away against this wind until I reach the Appellation Mountains, which are hundreds of miles away!

I stopped off in the small town of Palisade for lunch today. It was very busy, which I later found out was because they were celebrating Pioneer Day. While standing in the shade outside the small Pioneer Café on Main Street, I talked to Michelle and her mum Charlotte, Palisade residents. They were the ones telling me all about the carnival. Apparently, the celebrations go on all weekend, and I’d just missed today’s parade, but now everybody was off to some photography competition. It all looked like a bit of fun. I might have stopped for an hour or two if I had more time.

It’s been boiling today. I passed one display saying it was 105 degrees. Although it didn’t feel that hot with the strong wind. Not until I stopped, the sweat just poured off me then.

Please Donate

Don’t forget the main reason behind my ride. I want to raise as much money for cancer research charities as possible. After my wife, Josie, died of breast cancer in 2007, aged only 42. Even the smallest donation helps. You can donate to Cancer Research UK or the Australian National Breast Cancer Foundation. Click on either one to donate. Every little bit helps to rid the world of this cruel disease.
