Bike-Ride to Australia-and-Beyond 10th-June-2012

Garry McGivern’s bike-ride to Australia-and-beyond Sunday, 10th-June-2012. In McCook. I got up as usual and went for breakfast. While eating breakfast, I overheard a couple of bikers talking about a weather warning for today. After hearing that, I quickly finished my breakfast and went back to my room to check it out on my laptop.

Yep, sure enough, they were right. There was a weather warning for today, and surprise, surprise, it was for wind. There were winds of 25 to 35 mph expected with gusts of 50 mph. I’d already had enough of the wind in the past couple of days. I couldn’t face another one. And not with those wind speeds, so I decided to stay put.

I asked the girl on reception if there was anything to do around here. Not much, she replied, apart from frisbee golf! Which intrigued me. Apparently, it involves throwing a frisbee over a long distance and getting it into a basket. Probably not the best of things to do on such a windy day! I spent the day doing office bits and looking out the window, watching the trees bending in the wind. Thinking I had made the right decision to stay put.

Please Donate

Don’t forget the main reason behind my ride. I want to raise as much money for cancer research charities as possible. After my wife, Josie, died of breast cancer in 2007, aged only 42. Even the smallest donation helps. You can donate to Cancer Research UK or the Australian National Breast Cancer Foundation. Click on either one to donate. Every little bit helps to rid the world of this cruel disease.
