Garry McGivern’s bicycle tour of Ireland, Sunday 14th-July-2019 Rosslare to Tramore. 52 miles. What a long evening last night waiting for the ferry. But it was definitely worth the hanging around, even if I’m feeling pretty knackered now.
I’d forgotten the peculiar way Stena Ferries have of loading bikes. Most ferries you either cycle on or walk on with the bike. Although not so many ferries let you ride on these days, because of bloody health and safety! But Stena Line makes you go on as a foot passenger, and they even make you take the bike on the shuttle bus from the terminal to the ferry!
I was a little worried when I went to board. The customs officers took my passport away. Luckily though, after about ten minutes, they returned with my passport after not finding my name on Interpol’s most wanted.
It was a bit of an uncomfortable crossing, and I don’t think I slept for much more than an hour. The seats were so uncomfortable, which I think they do on purpose. I could have got a berth, but it hardly seemed worthwhile for such a short crossing.
Yay Ireland
I arrived in Rosslare on time at four o’clock this morning. There was a definite chill in the air, and I wondered if my decision just to bring flip-flops was the wisest of choices. After another trip on the shuttle bus, I was outside the main terminal and soon on my way into the dark of night, although it didn’t take too long before the sun came up and it was light.
It’s been a hard slog today, and I’ve taken any excuse to stop and take a photograph. And as soon as I came across a campsite, I stopped. I’ve got a feeling that I may have stopped at this campsite before.
I’d forgotten how green and beautiful Ireland is, and when the sun is shining, I think you’ll find it hard to find a much better place! And long may it continue because it isn’t enjoyable when the winds blow and the rain lashes down! As I seem to remember, it was like when I was here in 2009.

Been trying to get a picture of the Stena ferry. What a lovely little windmill. Didn’t associate Ireland with the Normans. In some ways, that island is better than the Isle of Wight. What’s for dinner chef?
I didn’t know anything about the Norman’s either, but there was a lot of relics from them along that coast yesterday
