China, Cycling The World 18th-November-2012

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is in China, cycling around the world on Sunday, 18th-November-2012. Baoding to Beijing. 95 miles.

Made it to Beijing with not too much trouble, although they didn’t make it easy. The road I was following just stopped and turned into a motorway, and a lot of other roads were closed due to building work. (The whole country is like one big building site; there are high-rise towers going up everywhere.) But with the use of my compass and cycling down roads the wrong way, I found my way into the centre, somehow!

Not sure if I’m going to stay at this hotel or not, it’s fine, but the Internet’s a nightmare, as in it doesn’t work!

Had MacDonald’s for dinner, which made a change, but couldn’t connect to their wifi, which was one of the reasons for going in there. The login page was all in Chinese, surprisingly!

Don’t forget the main reason behind my ride. I want to raise as much money for cancer research charities as possible. After my wife, Josie, died of breast cancer in 2007, aged only 42. Even the smallest donation helps. You can donate to Cancer Research UK or the Australian National Breast Cancer Foundation. Click on either one to donate. Every little bit helps to rid the world of this cruel disease.

Follow me on social media: Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube and Pinterest. I’m also on Flickr, where my photos are released first at the end of each country I’ve just cycled through.

You can also follow my progress and see where I stop each night by visiting the Where’s Garry web page; there, you’ll find a map of the route I’ve taken so far.
