Bike-Ride to Australia-and-Beyond 20th-May-2012

Garry McGivern’s bike-ride to Australia-and-beyond Sunday, 20th-May-2012. Stockton to Jackson. 52 miles. I’ve been a bit surprised at how picturesque it is around here, even after being told it was a pretty place. Maybe I should listen to locals more!

This morning I was cycling through mile after mile of cherry orchards, which must look pretty amazing when they are in blossom. I think I missed it by about a month, but it was still pretty. Seeing all those cherries this morning made me fancy a cherry pie tonight. But I couldn’t find one. Isn’t cherry pie what all Americans eat!?

I stopped early today. I just couldn’t be bothered to cycle any further. Plus, I was a little unsure if there would be any more accommodation within cycling distance. There was also a “rare annular eclipse” this evening that I wanted to see. I sort of saw the eclipse and tried to take a photo, but it didn’t work!

Dinner tonight was at Denny’s, which reminds me of Little Chefs back in England, which isn’t surprising. Little Chefs are based on American diners, I think. That’s why I was even more surprised at not being able to buy a cherry pie. It’s always available in Little Chefs!

Don’t forget the main reason behind my ride. I want to raise as much money for cancer research charities as possible. After my wife, Josie, died of breast cancer in 2007, aged only 42. Even the smallest donation helps. You can donate to Cancer Research UK or the Australian National Breast Cancer Foundation. Click on either one to donate. Every little bit helps to rid the world of this cruel disease.
