Bicycle Touring The World: China to England by Plane

My latest bicycle touring around the world update, cycling through England, or rather flying to England, on Friday, the 23rd November 2012. Beijing, China, to Gatwick, England, by air. The flight was okay and not very busy at all, so there was plenty of room to spread out. It did seem to be a very long flight, and I only slept for an hour or so, though.

Once we’d landed at Gatwick and I’d got my bike and bags, I went and found a quiet corner to put the bike back together. It was too early to check into the hotel, and I wanted to go into central London to get some maps for future trips I’m thinking about. Bit of a waste of time as I couldn’t find any of the maps I was looking for!

Had a little sleep in the afternoon, then out in the evening for a few pints and a nice steak. Bed at a normal time; hopefully, I won’t be jet lagged tomorrow for the shortish ride home.

Bicycle Touring The World: China, in Beijing

My latest bicycle touring update, cycling around the world in Beijing, China, on Thursday, the 22nd November 2012. In Beijing. I felt a bit sad and down today, knowing that it was my last day in China and more or less the end of my bicycle tour! Although it will be nice to see family, friends and my cat!

Spent the day at the hotel. I’m not a very good tourist at the best of times. Let alone when I know I’ve got a flight to catch. Even if it is at 2 o’clock tomorrow morning, I just want to get going!

Got to the airport in plenty of time, about 5 hours before my flight! Was still able to check in and get rid of my bike and bag. I wonder if the queen gets asked if she packed her own bags, and if she does get asked, what does she say?

Bicycle Touring The World: China, in Beijing

My latest bicycle touring update, cycling around the world in Beijing, China, on Wednesday, the 21st November 2012. I spent the morning on the laptop, doing computer stuff and then went out for a walk in the afternoon, which turned into a bit of a nightmare! Every 100 yards or so, I would get stopped by somebody asking me if I wanted a tour guide! It started to feel like Istanbul, where they’re all trying to sell you a carpet. But at least here, they’re a lot prettier as they’re mostly girls asking. Maybe there was more on offer than just a tour!!
