Bicycle Touring East England: Sussex To Norfolk Bicycle Tour Map

Bicycle touring East England, cycling from my home in Bognor Regis, West Sussex, to King’s Lynn, Norfolk. The map shows where Garry stopped each night of his 500-mile bike ride around East England.

Unfortunately, back in January, Garry had to have another operation on his back, curtailing his cycling. But now Garry’s back on his bike, heading off around East England. To see how far he can get on his limited time, as he has to attend the hospital for hydrotherapy each week.

The tour was conducted over two weeks, with Garry returning home partway through. To attend the hospital.

Bicycle Touring East England: King’s Lynn To Bognor Regis By Train | Travelsonabike2

Cycling East England: King’s Lynn to Bognor Regis by train

My latest bicycle touring update: cycling in East England. King’s Lynn to Bognor Regis by train. In the end, last night I decided to get the train home today. After weighing up the different options, I decided that the train would be best. Especially as I have to be home early on Monday morning.

To cycle it would have meant doing over 100 miles today and then the same tomorrow, and that doesn’t allow for getting lost! Also, it meant going through London, and I always get lost there! I could have ridden for a while today and got a train back tomorrow, but then there’s always that worry that they’ll be doing engineering works on a Sunday. And there would be a bus replacement, which I wouldn’t be allowed to take the bike onto.

The train journey home was none eventful, and even cycling across London was fine. I know central London, so don’t get lost. It’s the suburbs I’m not too good with.

Cycling East England: Yarmouth to King’s Lynn

My latest bicycle touring update: cycling in East England. Great Yarmouth to King’s Lynn. 93 miles. Had a really nice ride again today. Although it has been rather chilly with a stiff breeze blowing off the North Sea, which thankfully has been behind me again!

I’ve been following the coast road, which has had very little traffic. And I’ve been passing through loads of little villages. One thing I did notice was the number of churches that there was. Every village seemed to have one. I was enjoying my ride so much today that at one point I got a bit carried away and wasn’t paying any attention to the signs and went on an eight mile detour!

All in all, another good day. I seem to have got my cycling legs back! Not too sure what I’m doing tomorrow, whether I’m going to get the train home or start cycling back, I’ll have a look tonight.

Cycling East England: Colchester to Great Yarmouth

My latest bicycle touring update: cycling in East England. Colchester to Great Yarmouth. 79 miles. What a day! The sun’s been shining, I’ve had the wind on my back, and I’ve managed to do some decent mileage for once! Not sure whether it’s because the sun’s been shining or because I’ve had the wind on my back, but that must be the best day I’ve had in a couple of months! For feeling fit that is!

I’m sure that I could feel a change in my back/leg today, don’t ask me what it is, though it just feels different! Every day on this trip, I’ve been struggling and finding it hard going, but today I felt back to my normal self. Whilst cycling anyway, I still struggled to walk once I was off the bike. But again, that didn’t feel half as bad as it has been! Let’s just hope that this isn’t just a one off and it will be the same tomorrow!
