Cycling Europe, England: Brockenhurst to Bognor Regis

My latest bicycle touring update, cycling in Europe: England, Brockenhurst to Bognor Regis. 63 miles. Well, that’s another trip over. And as usual, it’s been thoroughly enjoyable. Although I’d be lying if I said it was easy. It wasn’t; most days have been a struggle, and some have been really tough. But as I said earlier, it’s still been enjoyable. And my total mileage for the three weeks was 973.

Winkle Street, Southampton

There’s not really much to say about the ride home from the New Forest, apart from the fact that it seemed to take forever. I kept bumping into people who wanted to talk. Not that I minded; I always enjoy talking to anyone who shows an interest. It just seemed that there was a lot today, probably because all I wanted to do was get home and put things away.

I’m not sure when I’ll be going away again, hopefully soon, though. But I’ve got quite a few things to sort out at home and a couple of jobs I’ve been putting off, which I need to do. At the moment, I don’t have any hospital appointments, so if I’m quick and pull my finger out, I can get away before any come through!

Cycling Europe, England: in Brockenhurst

My latest bicycle touring update, cycling in Europe: England. In Brockenhurst, for a change. I decided to stay in the New Forest for another night in the end. Although the campsite is busy, it’s not been too bad.

I’ve decided that I’m going to go home tomorrow after all. I spent much of last night and today thinking where I could go. That isn’t going too far away from home; I don’t have a lot of my medication left. Also, I’m not so good at going somewhere just for the sake of it.

Oh, get off. That’s my bike

I’ve spent a lot of the day putting chains back on people’s bikes and picking children up off the ground. That have either tripped over or fallen off their bike. I seem to have pitched my tent in an accident black spot. That’s another good reason for going home tomorrow. I’m worn out.

Cycling Europe, England: Salisbury to Brockenhurst

My latest bicycle touring update, cycling in Europe: England, Salisbury to Brockenhurst. 63 miles. Sixty-three miles; I’d be impressed if it was that many miles. It was probably more like 25/30 today. I’d done more miles whilst in Salisbury than I thought.

I was going to go home today, but in what can only be described as a fit of madness. I’ve come down to the New Forest. On a weekend, what was I thinking? It’s a nightmare in the New Forest at the weekend. It just gets so busy. I might live to regret this decision!

One of the reasons for coming to the New Forest was to cycle somewhere different, not the destination but the route to get here. I entered the new forest near Furzley. And what a great route it was. Quiet, narrow lanes. That was until I went under the M27. I was then on the A337, which was rather busy. But I was only on it for four miles.

Where Next

I’m not too sure how long I’m going to stay in the New Forest; we’ll see what happens tonight. But I’ve got a bit of a dilemma now. I’ve done just over 900 miles on this tour and would really like to get over the 1000 mark. But the ride home is only about 65 miles. I could stay down here and go for a ride somewhere tomorrow, or I could head down to Swanage. I’ve not been down there so far this year. Or I could just go home and forget about getting over the 1000-mile mark. I’m not really that fussed. I’ll think about it overnight.

Cycling Europe, England: in Salisbury

My latest bicycle touring update, cycling in Europe: England, in Salisbury. Just as well, I turned up early at this campsite in Salisbury. It’s the summer solstice today. And because Stonehenge, where the solstice is celebrated, is only just up the road, the campsite is rather full.

I popped out this morning to the supermarket and, on the way back, got a little carried away taking photographs. Even though I’ve taken hundreds of photos of Salisbury in the past, you never know; I may have even taken some of something different.

St Anne’s Gate

It was gone midday before I returned to the campsite. So, I had a spot of lunch and talked to a few of the other campers. And before I knew where I was, it was time to have a shower and head to the hospital to see about my neck.

The campsite seems rather full of Dutch people. As was the Cambridge campsite. Perhaps they all headed to England when they heard I was in their country. Little did they know I wasn’t stopping in the Netherlands for long.

Not A Good End To The Day

Anyway, I’ve been to the hospital, and I’m too annoyed, even angry, to say anything about it. I might write a whole post about it!
