January 2026 Bicycle Touring Photos

Photos from my bicycle touring exploits around the world, which I’ve added to the website over the past month (January 2026). The majority of this month’s photos come from my world tour when I was in Bangladesh, China, Laos and Thailand. There are also some photos from October last year and my ride in England.

There’s no Flickr photo album this month as I’ve barely been anywhere in the past few weeks. Partly due to the weather, but mainly because of my hip. It’s giving me really bad sciatica, but hopefully my increased medication will kick in soon, so I can at least get out on a few local rides. Although there’s no new Flickr album, I have been busy updating some of my old albums.

You can also find photos on my social media channels: Facebook, Threads, Instagram, and Pinterest, which you can view without subscribing. But if you already use social media, why not follow me as I travel around on my bike?

Bicycle Touring Thailand: Lang Suan to Wiang Sa, On This Day 6th February 2012 | Travelsonabike2

World Bicycle Tour: Thailand on this day in 2012

My on this day bicycle touring post comes from Thailand on the 6th of February 2012. Things are starting to heat up as I travel further south towards the equator. The heat and humidity in the Lang Suan district seem a bit too much for me today. It’s as though I’ve not acclimatised to the Thai heat yet. But I still managed a decent amount of miles.

Monday 6th February 2012. Lang Suan to Wiang Sa. 101 miles.

I might have to start wearing long sleeves and a hat! It doesn’t seem to matter how much sunscreen I put on. It’s just not working. I just sweat it all off after half an hour or so. I’m looking rather red and feeling a little sore tonight. Compared to back home, apparently, they’re suffering from sub-zero conditions and snow. I think I know where I’d rather be. Snow would be a nightmare for me. Despite the hot conditions, I’ve still managed to cycle over 100 miles today, just!

At least these shelters give me some relief from the sun

It’s quite amusing watching people get out of their vehicles in this part of the World. They all drive Toyota Hilux pickups, which aren’t exactly small. Yet the Thai people aren’t the biggest of people. And they all look to be struggling to get in and out. Maybe they should carry a ladder.

Tonight’s supper was rather hot. It was some sort of soup, very tasty, but, boy, was it hot. Not only have I spent all day sweating, but now I’m sweating over my supper. It was pouring off me, just as it had been all day. But I managed to get through it. Even the chef was impressed. Personally, I think it was a ploy on their part to get me to buy more beer. Ha, they don’t know me. I don’t need an excuse.

Cycling To Australia: Thailand, Wiang Sa To Phatthalung | Travelsonabike2

Bicycle Touring to Australia: Thailand, Wiang Sa to Phatthalung

My latest bicycle touring to Australia update: cycling through Thailand, Wiang Sa to Phatthalung. 101 miles. My radio interview came on over my headphones today. What did I say? I intend to camp in Europe and maybe rough it a bit! I’ve camped twice, which was on the first two nights of my trip! I have roughed it a bit, though. Some of the hotels I’ve stayed in have been pretty rough! I’ve had to sleep in my sleeping bag, so I didn’t catch anything from the bed! I even put my tent up in a couple of hotels!

Green hills
Strange looking hills in the middle of nowhere

I went into one of the motorway services today and got served by a ladyboy! Or if it wasn’t, they definitely had the look and sound of a man. Perhaps I should have gone for a feel to double-check!? Second thoughts, I’d rather not know! I must admit I’ve heard all the stories about the ladyboys of Thailand. But that’s the first one I’ve knowingly seen!

Interesting Meal

Supper was different tonight. I had my own barbecue that I cooked at the table. First off, a pot with hot coals came out. Then another pot, with a flat dome in the middle, surrounded by water, came out. The domed pot also had a griddle on the top of it. Next to come out was a plate of meats and seafood, a bowl of vegetables, and a selection of herbs and spices. The idea was that the meat and seafood would be barbecued on the dome. And the vegetables were cooked in the surrounding water, with herbs and spices added to taste. It was all very lovely, but what a palaver. All I wanted to do was eat!

While sitting in the restaurant, I saw an elephant walk past. It had lights on its back so that other traffic could see it!
