Bicycle Touring England: Harwich to Bognor Regis

Life after sepsis and back to bicycle touring, my latest update: cycling in England, Harwich to Bognor Regis. 89 Miles. Well, I’d like to say that it’s good to be back in England, but it’s not! Busy roads, with drivers who don’t have any patience, and roads that are full of potholes! And worst of all, the rubbish that litter the countryside is unbelievable! What’s the matter with people? Do they not care anymore? I’m ashamed to call this country home!

Well, that’s the rant over with! It was very cold this morning. In fact, it’s not warmed up all day, I even had to get my gloves and fleece out!

It wasn’t a particularly pleasant ride to start with. Not until I reached Chelmsford, then things seemed to improve. The roads improved, and so did the drivers! There was still rubbish everywhere, though! Cycling into London was really nice. To my surprise, I found a Greenway, which took me all the way to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

I would have liked to cycle home tomorrow, but to find somewhere to stay in London tonight at short notice is ridiculously expensive! So I took the easier and cheaper option by getting the train! Besides, it’s not a particularly nice ride home from London anyway!

All in all, it’s been a very enjoyable tour, and my fitness seems to have returned to pre-sepsis levels. It’s just a shame that I’ve now got to go back into hospital! But then again, now is the right time to give me the best chance of a speedy recovery! Total miles of both legs of this tour: 1766.

Bicycle Touring the Netherlands: Rotterdam to Hook of Holland

Life after sepsis and back to bicycle touring, my latest update: cycling in the Netherlands, Rotterdam to the Hook of Holland. 34 Miles. Well, that was nearly a disastrous ending to the whole trip! I only booked the ferry the wrong way, England to Holland, instead of Holland to England, what an idiot!

Thankfully, the very kind girl on check-in changed the route at no extra cost! I thought the times of the ferries were different to the ones I’d got!

Definitely lucked out on the cabin; there’s even a TV

Spent the morning hanging around the hotel. It was pouring with rain. And I didn’t have to be at the ferry until 11 pm. Well, that was what I thought!

After spending the morning in the hotel, I then went out to play the tourist. I liked Rotterdam. I thought it was a lovely place, made all the better by the fact that everything is accessible by bike!

Luckily, I got bored with playing the tourist and headed for the ferry. Just as well, it was due to leave an hour earlier than I thought! It was an easy 20-mile ride to the ferry terminal at the Hook of Holland.

Life After Sepsis: Cycling The Netherlands, Arnhem To Rotterdam | Travelsonabike2

Cycle Touring The Netherlands 20th-October-2019

Bicycle Touring the Netherlands: Arnhem to Rotterdam

Life after sepsis and back to bicycle touring, my latest update: cycling in the Netherlands, Arnhem to Rotterdam. 78 Miles. A much better ride today. with no wind and no rain, although it was rather chilly. But I’ll take the cold over the rain any day! I’ve spent the whole day on cycle paths. In fact, since I’ve been in the Netherlands, I don’t think I’ve cycled on a single road!

Amusing sculpture. Is it Snoopy

How things have changed. I remember the last time I came here, I got nothing but abuse from car drivers as I cycled along the roads!

This is how roads should be

But back then, we didn’t have the apps we have today. It was a good old paper map!

It’s the Netherlands, canals and bicycles!

And of course, the maps I use are of the whole country and don’t show minor, or rather smaller towns! According to my maps, there was nothing between Arnhem and Rotterdam!

Life After Sepsis: Cycling Lorick, Germany To Arnhem, Netherlands | Travelsonabike2

Bicycle Touring: Lorick, Germany, to Arnhem, Netherlands

Life after sepsis and back to bicycle touring, my latest update: cycling, Lorick, Germany, to Arnhem, in the Netherlands. 76 Miles. I had an annoying start to the day. In fact, the whole day has been rather annoying!

Initially, the day started off really well. I got up and found that the tent was more or less dry! No having to pack it away wet for a change. Unfortunately, while I was having breakfast, it started to rain! Only for a short while, but enough to get the tent damp, never mind, same old, same old!

About an hour into my ride today, the wind got up, and it started to rain and has been doing so on and off all day. In fact, it’s been pretty chilly! The weather’s been so bad I only took a couple of photos, and they’re not exactly brilliant!
