Bicycle Touring The World: Georgia, Gomi to just outside Tbilisi

My latest bicycle touring around the world update, cycling through Georgia. Gomi to just outside Tbilisi. 86 miles. I had a pleasant evening talking to Andras last night. We stayed upstairs in a communal area outside our rooms, where we ate our food. Who knows what was going on downstairs!? We kept well away. And when I went to bed, I wedged a chair under the door handle, just in case the one that kept grabbing my bum had other ideas!

After leaving the brothel, I mean guesthouse, this morning, I had a nice ride with Andras. It made a nice change to cycle with somebody. I even visited a church so that Andras could take some photos. I don’t think it was quite what he thought it was going to be. It was a bit run down, and I can’t say it did much for me! But it was still interesting, and I’m glad I stopped. It’s always good to get a bit of culture!

After cycling for much of the day together, Andras and I parted company just before Tbilisi. With Andras heading north towards the Russian border, while I continued my ride east.

Lost Again

I was hoping to stop in Tbilisi tonight and find a hotel with wifi. But the only hotels I saw were on my way into the city. And I wanted to be on the other side of the city before stopping, so I continued on. What a mistake that was! It then took me an age to find the right road out. Then once I was on the right road, I couldn’t find a hotel with wifi.

Watching the husband and wife in tonight’s restaurant is amusing. She wants to watch the soaps, but he doesn’t, and as soon as she leaves the room, he switches the TV over to the news. But when she returned, she changed it back; this went on all the time I was in the restaurant and kept me highly amused. No wonder I thought it was warm today. I saw on the TV that it was forty-eight degrees today! I also discovered the clocks changed when I crossed the border into Georgia. And I lost another hour!

Bicycle Touring The World: Georgia, Samtredia to Gomi

My latest bicycle touring around the world update, cycling through Georgia. Samtredia to Gomi. 88 miles. What a lovely little hotel last night, and it only cost me twenty dollars. There was also a nice restaurant next door where I had supper last night and breakfast this morning. Although I felt a bit like the odd one out this morning, everybody had a pint of beer with their breakfast!

The day didn’t get off to the best of starts, and I think I may be scarred for life! I was merrily cycling along when I passed a Turkish coach parked at the side of the road. As I rode past, I glanced over and got an eyeful of some rather large Turkish women all squatting at the side of the road! I’d only been cycling for an hour or so. And that sight stayed in my mind nearly all day, no matter what I tried to do to get rid of it!

I’ve Found A Friend

I was hoping today wouldn’t be as long a day as yesterday, which it wasn’t in miles cycled. But it was time-wise. I spent much of the afternoon drudging up a 1000-metre climb! While drudging up this hill, another cyclist came up from behind me. We spoke as we cycled along, and I found out his name was Andras, and he was from Hungary. He told me he was in his sixties, which I found hard to believe. He certainly never looked it. I said that I was hoping to find a hotel in the next town, as was he.

Unfortunately, there was no accommodation in Gomi, but we were told of a guesthouse a few miles out of town. We found the guesthouse, and thankfully, they had a couple of rooms. Although I’m not so sure it is a guesthouse now! I think it’s a bit of a knocking shop! Which is run by two women. One is slim and keeps grabbing my bum and other parts of my anatomy! The other woman is a rather large butch lady who doesn’t wear a bra, but should before she trips over!

Self-supported bicycle touring around the world at the Georgia border

Bicycle Touring The World: Findikli, Turkey to Samtredia, Georgia

My latest bicycle touring around the world update, cycling, Findikli, Turkey to Samtredia, Georgia. 112 miles. The border between Turkey and Georgia came early this morning. It was only about thirty miles from my hotel. Speaking of the hotel, I was still annoyed with the cost of it this morning! The border crossing from Turkey to Georgia went okay, and there weren’t any issues. And I’m now in country number twenty!

I was aiming to stop the night in a town called Poti tonight. I liked the sound of it! But after spotting another road that wasn’t on my map, I decided to miss out on Poti. The new road was a much quicker route to Tbilisi, although it has meant that I cycled an extra thirty miles today.

I’ve only been in Georgia for a few hours, but it seems to me that it’s easier to buy a bottle of beer than a bottle of water. I’ve really struggled to find water, but beer is on sale everywhere! Maybe I’ll just have to drink beer instead of water! It’s what all the locals seem to do. Nearly every single group of men I’ve passed have been drinking beer. Whether they’re sitting by a front door or standing in the street! I’ll have to watch and make sure the locals don’t get me into any bad habits!

Supper was interesting tonight. All the staff at the restaurant were chasing a rat around that had just walked through the door!
