Bicycle Touring The World: in New York City, USA

My latest bicycle touring around the world update, cycling across the USA, in New York City. That was the second night on the trot that I’ve not slept very well. I’m still in quite a bit of pain and just can’t seem to get comfortable!

I finished packing my bike away first thing, then it was on to sorting visas out for my next destination. While I was doing this, I received a phone call from the hospital asking me to go back and fill out some insurance forms! What a nightmare that was. Firstly, I got on the wrong train, then when I found the right train, I was going in the wrong direction. Maybe I’m still slightly concussed! It was all very confusing.

After eventually finding my way back to the Jersey City Medical Center, I then had to wait around for an hour or so to be seen. Then, when somebody did see me, they didn’t know what form I needed to fill in. But they eventually got there, and I filled out their form.

Finding my way back to New York was a lot easier, although the day had gone by the time I got back to the hotel.

I actually managed to find somewhere that serves fresh vegetables tonight, and it wasn’t expensive! Typical, I’m nearly at the end of my time in America, and I manage to find fresh veg for the first time!

Bicycle Touring The World: Jersey City to New York, New York, USA

My latest bicycle touring around the world update, cycling across the USA through New York. Jersey City to New York. 22 miles. I left the hotel this morning in a lot of pain; my head was killing me, and my body ached. It was a nervous ride; every time a car came past me, I braced myself, waiting to be hit, which thankfully never came.

Luckily, with my forced stop, I found a cycle-friendly route into New York, which took me away from busy roads. And with the help of some other cyclists, I found my way to my hotel relatively easily. I’d already figured that I needed to cross over to New York via the George Washington Bridge. But that was about it. Luckily, I met some local cyclists while crossing the bridge, who took me to a quieter road. Then, all I had to do was count down the street numbers until I reached 48th Street, where my hotel was.

Every bump on that road today hurt, even the smallest. It seemed to jar my whole body. I was glad it was only a short ride, and I was happy to finish. There was nowhere to keep my bike at the hotel, so they allowed me to take it to my room. The room wasn’t the biggest, but a bike shop was just around the corner from the hotel, where I got a box to pack my bike into. I managed to get the bike into the box this afternoon, which has given me a bit more room. I’ll pack it away properly later. I’m in too much pain now.
