Bicycle Touring The World: Duchesne to Vernal, Utah, USA

My latest bicycle touring around the world update, cycling across the USA through Utah. Duchesne to Vernal. 57 miles. Short ride today after picking up a puncture. I’d just stopped for something to eat at lunchtime. When I came back out, my back tyre was flat. Bit of a pain, but nothing major, and let’s face it, considering the miles that I’ve done, I’ve not had that many.

A rather barren landscape today

The puncture didn’t take long to fix, and I was soon on my way. After half a mile, I changed direction and headed into a strong headwind. I continued for a while, but this was hard going. In front of me, I could see thick black clouds approaching. Deciding that this was hard going and looking at the clouds, I turned around and headed back into town. Maybe that puncture was an omen, and I should stop.

Despite it getting very dark, it never really came to much. We had a few spots of rain, which were rather big, and there was plenty of lightning in the distance! I think we must have been on the edge of the storm.

Not a good end to the day; I managed to snap one of my crowns while eating supper. And I was only eating chips! The worst thing about it is that it’s right at the front of my mouth! I look like a right numpty now!

Bicycle Touring The World: Provo to Duchesne, Utah, USA

My latest bicycle touring around the world update, cycling across the USA through Utah. Provo to Duchesne. 98 miles. A lovely ride up through Provo Canyon first thing this morning. Provo Canyon was very picturesque, with its rocky peaks, blue skies and the last remnants of snow. It’s nice to be back cycling after my unscheduled stop.

The rocky peaks gave way to lush green rolling hills, which in turn gave way to rocky scrubland. It’s one of the reasons I’m enjoying myself here. The countryside completely changes in one day.

This morning was fairly hard cycling, heading up through Provo Canyon, but the scenery more than made up for it. And consequently, this afternoon, I’ve had a lot of downhills.

What a funny motel tonight. It reminds me of Le Mont St Michel in France, but without the steps! The reception is in a different part of town to the rooms. The rooms are all spread out around the town.

I had supper in the local bar, which is always good. But I just can’t get used to being able to sit at the bar and eat a proper meal with a knife and fork. It’s just not something that we do back home, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it before I leave the US!

Cycling The World: USA, Still in Provo | Travelsonabike2

Bicycle Touring The World: Still in Provo, USA

My latest bicycle touring around the world update, cycling across the USA through Utah. Still in Provo. I was still feeling a bit rough this morning, so I decided to err on the side of caution. And spend one more day in Provo. I’d also managed to break my travel adapter and couldn’t charge anything. Plus, the motel’s reasonably cheap and the young couple that run it are lovely. And have been checking in on me regularly.

It didn’t take long for my phone to drain with no charger. And my emergency charger was also flat. It was no good. I had to get moving and go and find a new adaptor.

I felt safe enough to venture out and buy a new adapter at about lunchtime. It took god knows how many shops I tried before finding the right adapter.

I’m feeling so much better tonight, but still being cautious with what I eat. I don’t know what upset my stomach as I don’t remember eating anything different that would have upset it, which is a bit worrying! I’m not going to jinx things tonight, but hopefully, I’ll be in a different place tomorrow night!

Bicycle Touring The World: in Provo, USA, With a Bad Stomach

My latest bicycle touring around the world update, cycling across the USA through Utah, in Provo. Well, I don’t know what I ate or drank last night. But whatever it was, it didn’t agree with me! I was up nearly all night toing and froing to the bathroom! After little sleep last night, I didn’t wake up until gone nine o’clock.

The only time I left my room today was to check that my room wasn’t taken tonight and pay for it. I’m still not feeling particularly brilliant tonight, but hopefully, I’ll get a good night’s sleep tonight and get back on the road tomorrow. Maybe I’m being punished for stopping yesterday!?
