This month’s photos come from rides in France, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Portugal, Ireland and my ride around Kent and Sussex in June.

Photos in this month’s Flickr album have all been taken while cycling around my local area, on day rides. In addition to photographs from Felpham and Bognor Regis, there are also photos from Portsmouth, Arundel, Littlehampton, and Chichester.

You can also find photos on my social media channels: Facebook, Threads, Instagram, and Pinterest, which you can view without subscribing. But if you already use social media, why not follow me as I travel around on my bike?

Bicycle Touring Ireland

This week’s Travelsonabike2 bicycle touring on this day post comes from Ireland on the 18th of July 2019, a wet day’s ride, but a rewarding finish.

Thursday, 18th July 2019. Killarney to Ennis. 79 Miles.

Maybe I should have stayed at camp today. This morning was rather wet, with heavy showers coming in thick and fast. I could see the rain coming in the distance, but I’d wait to put on my waterproofs until the last minute. Wait for it, wait for it, wait, too late; I was wet. I soon learnt not to wait and would put my waterproofs on at the first sign.

Apart from the rain, it’s not been a bad day, and I’ve managed to get a few miles in. I saw a pod of dolphins while on the Tarbert to Killimer ferry, which was cool.

I’m staying at a hotel tonight. The nearest campsite I could see was another twenty miles away, and I certainly wasn’t up for that.

A nice pint of the black stuff

At least staying in a hotel gives me a chance to try some of the black stuff (Guinness), which is the first on this trip. I must admit that while I sit here in the bar writing today’s blog, it’s going down rather well!

Bicycle Touring Wales

This week’s Travelsonabike2 bicycle touring on this day post comes from Wales on the 11th of July 2019. This was my first long-distance ride for nearly a year. I’d spent the past ten months recovering from sepsis.

Thursday, 11th July 2019. Salisbury to Chepstow. 72 miles.

I had a nice early start this morning. I was up at 5 am, although a lot of faffing around on my part meant I didn’t leave camp until gone 7. But it was all good and not a problem.

I wasn’t sure which route to take this morning, so I started to follow my phone. But I soon got annoyed with that after it tried to send me across the firing ranges on Salisbury Plain. I then went my own way along the main roads.

I’m staying in a hotel tonight. I wasn’t sure which direction to go after Chepstow, and I couldn’t see any campsites nearby. So rather than go off in the wrong direction, I just stopped at the first place I saw. Hopefully, I’ve now sorted out my route to Fishguard.

Tour of Ireland Photos July-2019

Travelsonabike2 12th-July-2019

July-2019 photos that were taken by Garry on his 1300-mile bicycle tour of Ireland.

Garry started his tour by cycling up through England and Wales before crossing into Ireland.

After catching the ferry from Fishguard to Rosslare, Garry followed the coastline, firstly cycling the southern coast, before heading up the west coast.

Completing his ride of the south and west coasts of Ireland, Garry crossed into Northern Ireland. After Northern Ireland, Garry headed south to Dublin.

Once in Dublin, Garry caught the ferry back to Wales, this time arriving in Holyhead.

Following national cycle routes, Garry cycled the picturesque North coast of Wales before crossing back into England.

Once in England, Garry continued to follow the national cycle network to Chester. After taking some photos of Chester, Garry headed south back to his home in Bognor Regis, using a variety of cycle routes, canal paths and roads.

As per normal, Garry took plenty of photos all the way around, which you can see on Garry’s Flickr page, click on any picture below to view.
