Tecumseh to Maryville. 98 miles.
Well that was a long difficult day! Despite the strong wind today I was doing pretty well and was all set for a nice early finish. I stopped off at about 10 o’clock for something to eat and set off again with about 46 miles to do. After about 3 miles there was a sign saying road closed follow detour, which I obviously did, the detour turned directly into the strong wind with some pretty steep climbs as well. I didn’t have a clue where I was on these back roads, they weren’t on my map. Eventually it lead to this small town called Fairfax which I had on my map and it turned out that I could stay on this road and it would take me directly here and it was only 26 miles. After another couple of miles I came across another sign saying bridge out 8 miles ahead! So back I went to find the main road which was easy enough it just meant going another 8 miles which I was hoping not to have to do.
With only about 15 miles to go there was another sign saying road closed detour, but this time it went in the opposite direction away from where I wanted to go. After talking to several locals in a garage I decided to head for the road closure and pick up a back road, again this was directly into the wind and up hill but at least I found it, eventually finished cycling about 7.30 pretty knackered!
