Cycling The World Azerbaijan 16th-August-2012

Garry McGivern’s cycling around the world, Thursday 16th-August-2012 in Baku city Azerbaijan. What a lovely little hotel I’m staying at in the old part of the city. Although I’d use the hotel very loosely, it’s more like a guesthouse. If you look at the hotel’s website, it gives the impression of being some big international hotel. But in reality, it is a guesthouse, but whatever it is, I think it’s great, and I’m enjoying my stay.

My guesthouse, I mean hotel.

Elmin, the hotel manager, is a real character, every time I see him he comes out with some anniversary, today was the death of Elvis Presley!

I picked up my passport and new visa today and now have a three-month visa. Had I known it would have been that easy, I wouldn’t have bothered getting one in London! After picking my passport up, I went to see about getting the boat to Kazakhstan. And got told to come back tomorrow morning at ten o’clock, or at least that’s what somebody said they said!

Hopefully, tonight will be my last night in Azerbaijan, and I’ll be on my way to Kazakhstan tomorrow.

Don’t forget the main reason behind my ride. I want to raise as much money for cancer research charities as possible. After my wife, Josie, died of breast cancer in 2007, aged only 42. Even the smallest donation helps. You can donate to Cancer Research UK or the Australian National Breast Cancer Foundation. Click on either one to donate. Every little bit helps to rid the world of this cruel disease.
