Garry McGivern’s bike-ride to Australia-and-beyond Thursday, 24th-May-2012 Austin to Eureka. 68 miles. It was a bit chilly last night, but I was fine, all tucked up in my sleeping bag. It was still cold when I went to get up, making it very hard to get out of a warm sleeping bag. I eventually pulled myself out of my bag and started to pack away. Only to be interrupted by the lady that looks after the church. Who wanted to talk, which is always nice. The only trouble was that she wouldn’t let me get a word in edgeways. All I wanted to do was pack up and get moving, especially as I wasn’t allowed to talk!
The scenery was pretty impressive again today. After going uphill first thing, the road seemed to level out, then this afternoon, I was going downhill. I think I may have been cycling on some plateau.
I had trouble finding a room again tonight even though I arrived early. So I’ve decided to book my room in advance for tomorrow night. I suppose that’s one of the advantages of having the internet each evening. I can see how far somewhere is and decide that will be my night stop. Not that I like doing that, but not being able to find a room after a long day of cycling is too stressful! Even booking in advance wasn’t that simple, but it was a good move by the looks of things. It took me five motels before I found one with a room for the night.
