Kazakhstan, Cycling The World 27th-September-2012

Garry McGivern’s cycling around the world, Thursday, 27th-September-2012, Shymkent to Bauyzhau Momyshuly. 80 miles. I had breakfast with the two bikers this morning before we went our separate ways. They were heading north to Russia while I continued west towards China. I’ve not decided yet where I’m going to finish. It might not even be China!

Trees and mountains
Hopefully, I’m skirting around those mountains

The landscape changed completely today. Gone were the baron open plains I had in the days before reaching Shymkent. Lush green trees and hills had now replaced the flat plains, but still the same crap roads! Although the day ended on a new road, which will hopefully continue tomorrow.

With all the hills today, it ended up being a long day, and I only just managed to set up camp before it got dark. And despite the hills making it hard going today, it made a nice change from the flat baron landscape. I’ll probably change my mind again tomorrow if it’s still hilly.

Please Donate

Don’t forget the main reason behind my ride. I want to raise as much money for cancer research charities as possible. After my wife, Josie, died of breast cancer in 2007, aged only 42. Even the smallest donation helps. You can donate to Cancer Research UK or the Australian National Breast Cancer Foundation. Click on either one to donate. Every little bit helps to rid the world of this cruel disease.
