Garry McGivern’s cycling around the world, Thursday, 6th-September-2012, Atyrau to Magat. 91 miles. After picking up a puncture, I didn’t get off to the best of starts this morning. Although I didn’t actually pick up the puncture today. I noticed yesterday that my tyre was flat but chose to ignore it as it was only a slow puncture. I just wanted to get cycling. But in the end, I got fed up with having to keep stopping and pump it up and stopped to fix it. One of the “easy pre-glued patches” I’d used earlier had delaminated. It turned out that it wasn’t a new puncture. Maybe I’ll stick to traditional patches!
Despite being back in the wilds of Kazakhstan, with no asphalt, no hotels, no internet and possibly no phone signal, it was great to be back cycling. And after seventy miles, I’d finally made it back to the point I was at ten days ago!
I’m camping tonight as I found a nice sheltered spot out of sight of the road. I’ve set up camp by the storm drains that run underneath the road. Unfortunately, once I’d set up camp, the wind changed direction, and it feels like I’m camping in tornado alley! I just hope it doesn’t rain!
