Bicycle Touring Australia
This week’s Travelsonabike2 bicycle touring on this day post comes from Australia on the 11th April 2012. I’ve had quite a short day today compared to many other days. And cycled a lot less than my usual distance. It might have been due to me now having to wear a helmet after being forced to buy one by the police the day before.
Wednesday 11th April 2012, Crystal Brook to Burra. 59 miles.
It’s been another hard ride again today. I wish that headwind would go. It’s also been pretty chilly. I even had to put my fleece on. Maybe things will start to warm up in a few days. I’m nearly at my most southerly point on the trip.
The scenery’s changed quite a bit now. It’s rolling hills with wheat fields, not that there’s any wheat there now, it’s all been harvested. I think they’re waiting to burn the fields when the ban on fires runs out on the fifteenth of April.

I’ve seen loads of cattle and sheep in the fields that had the wheat in. I’m not too sure what they eat, as there’s only the stubble left. And I’m pretty sure they don’t eat that. Or maybe they do. They all seem very nervous. I don’t even get that close, and they’re off running across the field. All I see is a dust cloud disappearing into the distance; I think my helmet scares them!!
I found a campsite tonight, but they were full; they were expecting a coach load of sixty children, all staying in individual tents. They didn’t need to tell me twice, sixty children all camping, no thanks. I’m now slumming it in some motel instead.
I’ve seen a few kangaroos today, which has been pretty cool. What has also been pretty cool is having a phone signal. That’s two days on the trot now. Hopefully, I’ll be in Chat magazine on or around the tenth of May.
