Bicycle Touring Australia
This week’s Travelsonabike2 bicycle touring on this day post comes from Australia on the 28th-March-2012. I’m now well into my ride across Australia. And just when I was gearing up for a long day’s ride, I was saved.
Wednesday 28th March 2012. Norseman to Fraser Range. 65 miles.
I think one of those road trains has knocked me off, and I’m in heaven. Either that, or I’m dreaming. I was flying along with my head down. I wasn’t exactly flying; that headwind was back. Neither was I making particularly good progress. And I was starting to worry that I wouldn’t reach the roadhouse at Balladonia until really late. But then, out of nowhere, came Fraser Range. I’d seen a sign 25km back saying caravan site open and wondered if this was it. I also wondered if they took tents. There was only one way to find out. They did. It was like finding an oasis in the desert. Hold on. I am in the desert! And there was me thinking it was going to be a long day.

Traditionally, Fraser Range was and still is a sheep shearing station. But the South African couple that runs it now added the campsite. And what a little gem it is. There are some petting animals and a fully equipped camp kitchen. Had I known, I wouldn’t have bought my cooker. They even have a well-stocked shop that sells beer! I told you I thought I was in heaven.
