This week’s Travelsonabike2 bicycle touring on this day post comes from the 27th-September-2013, and I’m in Innsbruck, Austria. My sciatica was playing me up, and I was in a lot of pain.
Friday 27th September 2013. In Innsbruck.
I decided not to go anywhere today, mainly because it’s raining, and there were one or two bits I wanted to do but couldn’t do whilst on the move. The first one being a trip to the hospital! My back went again about a week ago, which then, in turn, started my sciatica off again. I’m fine all the time I’m cycling. I’m not in any pain at all; it’s only when I stop and start to walk or at night when I try to sleep. And I don’t usually have any trouble sleeping.
I’d only brought a few painkillers with me, thinking that I wouldn’t need them. And I soon used up what I had. Over-the-counter medication isn’t strong enough, hence the trip to the hospital. After an examination by a doctor at the hospital, he gave me a prescription or a recipe, as he called it, for something stronger. I’m looking forward to a good night’s sleep tonight, hopefully.
What with my sciatica, I also picked up an eye infection and had to get some antibiotic eye drops in France, but that’s all cleared up now. Let’s hope that’s it now for all my ailments, the joys of getting old.
While I was stationary and not on the road, I decided to get a haircut, which proved harder than I thought. Despite there being loads of hairdressers, I couldn’t find a barber, well, not until after I’d had a haircut. I found loads then.
