Thursday 16th August 2012 in Baku city, Azerbaijan.
What a lovely little hotel I’m staying at in the old part of the city. Although I’d use the term hotel very loosely, it’s more like a guesthouse. If you look at the hotel’s website, it gives the impression of being a big international hotel. But in reality, it is a guesthouse, but whatever it is, I think it’s great, and I’m enjoying my stay.
Elmin, the hotel manager, is a real character, every time I see him he comes out with some anniversary, today was the death of Elvis Presley!
I picked up my passport and new visa today and now have a three-month visa for Kazakhstan. I wouldn’t have bothered getting one in London had I known how easy it was to get one here. After picking my passport up, I went to see about getting the boat to Kazakhstan. And was told to come back tomorrow morning at ten o’clock, or at least that’s what somebody said they said!
Hopefully, tonight will be my last night in Azerbaijan, and I’ll be on my way to Kazakhstan tomorrow.

I think your guesthouse was close to my one where I stayed a year ago.
The old part of Baku was really interesting.
I bet there’s been a lot of changes since I was there. Although possibly not to the old part of town.
