Cycling England: Brighstone to Bognor Regis
My latest bicycle touring update, cycling in England, Brighstone to Bognor Regis. 51 miles. That was a tough ride today. I’ve had a strong headwind for nearly all of my 51 miles today. But I’ve made it home, eventually, so it’s all good.
I was up nice and early this morning just to make sure I left camp and didn’t have another lazy day. Although it wasn’t that early by the time I got cycling. I used to be able to leave camp within an hour of getting up. Not these days. I don’t know what I do, but it just seems to take forever to get on the road.
I was going to have a bimble around the island before heading home. But with the wind already blowing against me, I cycled directly to the ferry terminal. Only to find that I’d just missed a ferry and it would be another hour before there was another one. So I cycled onto Ryde and caught the Fastcat back to Portsmouth instead.

The ride from Portsmouth was hard going with the strong easterly wind blowing directly at me. But I eventually arrived home late afternoon. After unpacking my gear and hanging my tent up to dry, that was it. I’d had enough and felt pretty exhausted. And after having a shower and some supper, which was kindly delivered by my daughter (fish & chips), I went to bed. I didn’t even get around to writing today’s update until the morning.
I’ve got a couple of hospital appointments next week and some work I need to finish. But hopefully, I’ll get away before Easter, as Holland’s Wood opens for the season, and I always like to get there on the first day of the season. Just in case I don’t make it back the rest of the year.
