Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is bicycle touring England on Monday, 15th-January-2024. Salisbury to Devizes. 36 miles. What a splendid effort on my part. 36 miles. And it took me most of the day. But then I knew I wasn’t going to travel too far when I left Salisbury this morning. I’m just surprised at how long it took me.
Although I shouldn’t be too surprised, I have been prating around a lot. And because it’s so cold, everything seems to take a long time. Just to take a photo is a major effort by the time I’ve taken my gloves off.
Playing The Tourist
I detoured to visit Stonehenge this morning. Which was good; it was also quiet, with very few tourists. It’s hard to believe just how old the stones are and how they managed to build them. It must have been a colossal effort.
Some Things Never Change
I’m undecided about tomorrow. Originally I was going to Oxford and camp there. But the campsite that was closed last year has now closed permanently. I’ll have to have a think about it overnight. Tonight is looking colder than last night. There’s already a frost on the tent. I might have to dig out my thermals. If they still fit me!
