Travelsonabike2 England Monday 29th-January-2024

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is bicycle touring England on Monday, 29th-January-2024. Waltham Cross to Canterbury. 73 miles. Well, that turned out to be a bit of a long day. And it’s all my own fault.

I was going to stop at a campsite near Maidstone. But after arriving in Rochester at around 12.30, my phone said that the campsite was only about eight miles away. So I decided that it was a little too early to stop and decided to head for Canterbury instead. Possibly not the best of ideas.

As soon as I’d decided to head for Canterbury, I was peddling uphill. And it seemed like an uphill slog nearly all the way here. But I’m here now. I can’t quite believe that it’s taken me eleven hours to get here, though it was only 73 miles. But hey, ho, it is what it is.

Finally at the campsite

I had a pleasant ride through London. I wasn’t phaffing about going all around the houses. My route was pretty straightforward. And I crossed the Thames via the Woolwich ferry. I thought at first that there was a tunnel the same as the time I crossed by the Cutty Sark last year, which there was. But it was for pedestrians only. Not that I’m averse to taking the ferry; I just thought it would be the same as last time.

I’ll have to start heading home tomorrow as I’ve got a hospital appointment on Thursday. My plan for tomorrow. As it stands tonight, is that I’ll head for a place called Horam and camp the night there before heading home Wednesday, ready for Thursday.
