Bicycle Touring England
Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is bicycle touring England on Saturday, the 8th-February-2025, in Salisbury. After hearing the weather forecast for today, I decided to stay put. Although, as per usual, it wasn’t as bad as forecast.
It was supposed to be wet all day with a cold, northeasterly wind, which, to a certain extent, it was. But it’s been more of a cold, misty day, which in some circumstances is worse than rain. You don’t think it’s wet until it’s too late, and you’re soaked through. So, I probably was better off staying where I am.
The temperature started to plummet last night, so before getting too cold. (It’s always better to wrap up early before getting too cold. Because you’ll find it hard to warm up once you’ve got cold. And many times, you won’t be able to.) So, I dug out my thermals last night only to find that the moths have been at them, and they’re full of holes! But they were still wearable, and I think it might be the first time I’d worn them since I was in China. In 2012!

A Lazy Day
There’s not been a lot to do today, and in some respects, I wished I’d moved on. But it would have been a cold, miserable ride, so I think I made the right decision. And although I hadn’t fully decided to stay until this morning. I think I already had subconsciously, as I didn’t wake up until my alarm went off at a quarter to six. I’m normally up around four.
The first job or thing to do today was to turn the tent entrance around. I had it facing directly into the wind. It was freezing with the door open (I don’t like sitting in the tent with the door closed; I like to see what’s going on). It was an easy fix. I just opened up the other side of the tent. Although I did have to swap my tarp around.
Next, I went to the supermarket, which is on the other side of the city. On the way back, I had a look around Salisbury looking for a pub that I could sit in for the afternoon but also be able to keep an eye on my bike. But I couldn’t find one. So returned to my tent and had some soup for lunch. I watched some of the football being played in the field next door. I only watched a little; it was too miserable standing outside. And just faffed around and drank beer for the rest of the day.
